Envelope certification

For quality assurance, Swiss Post offers an envelope certification service for sizes up to B4 format.

With certified envelopes and imprints, senders can rest assured that their items will reach their recipients undamaged and on time. At the same time, they guarantee PostMail problem-free processing on their various sorting and coding machines.

Certification for stability and legibility

To receive the Swiss Post certificate, an envelope has to pass through a coding and sorting system undamaged four times. Envelopes – with or without windows – also need to be designed in such a way that machine-printed addresses can be read automatically in 98% of cases.

Conditions for certification

The test procedure is available for machine-processable envelopes up to B4 format, paper packages without plastic film and items with machine-printed addresses. For applicants, certification costs CHF 1000 per instance.

Machine-processability as a sales argument

Large-volume mailers such as banks, insurance companies or direct marketers put their faith in quality assurance. It's particularly important to ensure that their mailings arrive in one piece. The certificate therefore denotes added value which the envelope manufacturer can certainly put forward as a sales argument. However, certification is also intended for special envelopes newly launched on the market such as ballot envelopes, for example.
