Swiss Post to launch further development of IncaMail

Swiss Post to launch further development of IncaMail

Press release dated 24.06.2010

Swiss Post is continuing to develop its IncaMail service for the secure and verifiable dispatch of e-mails.The new version, IncaMail 3.0, available as of autumn 2010, is based on a new architecture and includes additional functions. As such, medium-sized and large companies will have the option of running IncaMail themselves and making it available to their employees under their own auspices. Thanks to patented direct delivery, the intermediate storage of e-mails at Swiss Post will no longer be necessary.IncaMail 3.0 can be easily combined with Swiss Post's digital identity, SuisseID.

IncaMail – Swiss Post’s established service for the secure and verifiable dispatch of e-mails – is being developed further, based on a new architecture.Existing links such as the seamless integration of IncaMail in Outlook or in business software solutions such as Abacus will remain.Until the new version is launched in the autumn, IncaMail will not be available to new customers. Existing customers can, however, continue to use the current version and will automatically benefit from the new version as of autumn 2010.IncaMail 3.0 is based on completely revised technology and serves to simplify many aspects. For example, users will be able to convert regular e-mails into secure e-mails with fewer mouse clicks and interim e-mail storage will no longer be necessary thanks to patented direct delivery.

Simple combination with SuisseID

Owners of the Swiss Post Suisse ID, the digital identity of Swiss Post, are automatically pre-registered for IncaMail. Anyone wishing to send a SuisseID electronically signed document via a secure channel can send it using IncaMail, encrypted and, on request, as electronic registered mail.SuisseID has been available since 3 May 2010 from Swiss Post and is based on the SECO SuisseID standard for digital identity and signature in Switzerland.

Greater security and flexibility

One definite advantage of IncaMail 3.0 is its enhanced security standard.Via the current solution, instead of receiving the content of the e-mail, the recipient is sent a link to Swiss Post’s security serverfrom where he can collect the e-mail with the aid of a special access code. With IncaMail 3.0, this interim storage process is no longer necessary. The message text will be encrypted together with the accompanying documents and sent as an integral part of the e-mail. It can be opened directly with the relevant access code.IncaMail will also be more flexible to use. This is a particularly attractive feature for medium-sized and large companies. As such, these companies will have the option of managing the technology under their own auspices and making it available to their employees. As interim storage will no longer be necessary and companies will be able to manage the technology themselves, Swiss Post will be meeting the most discerning needs of particularly security-sensitive companies such as insurers and banks.

Service approved by the Federal Government

IncaMail 2.0 is already officially approved by the Federal Government for various communication procedures. Public authorities are entitled to exchange official and confidential documents via IncaMail, using encoded e-mail and, on demand, electronic registered mail instead of physical dispatch.

In addition, IncaMail 3.0 complies with provisions issued by the Federal Government. As of 2011 these will require petitions relating to civil actions and criminal proceedings, as well as debt collection and insolvency procedures to be filed electronically. Main objectives are the confidentiality of transmission, integrity of the documents, verifiable and time-stamped  sending and receiving.
