Promoting new talentWide range of apprenticeships
With its diverse range of apprenticeships, Swiss Post enables around 750 young people to enter the world of work each year. They can choose between twelve basic courses and a practical pre-apprenticeship scheme designed to bridge the gap for school leavers.
Swiss Post offers twelve different basic courses in the fields of logistics, sales/communications, IT and maintenance. All the apprenticeships are recognized by the Federal Office for Occupational Training and Technology (BBT). Trainees make up 4.8 percent of the workforce.
Swiss Post wants to prepare young people fully for the labour market. All trainees are therefore deployed in a number of different fields and learn to work with customers, team members and line managers. Each year, around 90 percent of successful trainees continue in employment with Swiss Post.
Trainee-run post offices
Swiss Post operates several trainee-run post offices. Following a brief induction period, retail trainees take over responsibility for a post office. They are given on-the-job support and advice from experienced Swiss Post employees.
Practical pre-apprenticeships to bridge the gap
In logistics, Swiss Post offers the practical „Perspektiva“ pre-apprenticeship scheme. Perspektiva aims to bridge the gap for school-leavers who have not found an apprenticeship by the time they finish compulsory education. Each year, eight to ten young people are given training at the Zurich-Mülligen letter centre. The scheme is being run for a three-year trial period.
